Weight Loss Surgery Recovery Questions

What is the Lap Band (Weight-loss surgery) Post-op recovery time? I have been cleared for surgery and am only waiting for the Doctor's scheduler to call me. This is expected to occur in a week or so. Recently I have come to find out that the post-op recovery time is between 2-4 weeks! I am an accountant and have a pretty sedentary job (obviously) Do I really need to be off that long? I am not getting bypass so I thought that the time comittment would be far far less. I was expecting to be out perhaps 2 days after surgery. Can anyone please forward to me their experience?
When it is safe to resume a weight loss diet after surgery? I had a colon resection via open abdominal surgery. They had to remove the part of my colon that is non functioning and blocked. I am 26 and just 10 lbs. over my ideal weight. When can I go back to my weight loss diet without impeding my recovery.
:as anybody had weight loss surgery? Okay so here's the deal I'm 18 years old and overweight and I have major back problems(from being overweight) I goto a physical therapist twice a week. I'm about 5 foot 7 inches and about 75lbs over weight. I've never talked to my doc about weight loss surgery. When I was younger I was diagnoised with asthma and my pediatrician put me on steroids for it. I immediatley gained weight and it didn't stop till I was about 16(so from ages to about 14-16) I gained weight and what a horrible time that was because I was in high school and we all know how difficult that can be. So anyways basically my question is has anyone had the lapband surgery? Does it work? How much weight did you lose? How long did recovery take? What did you have to do to prepare for it? Did you have a lot of excess skin? Were you able to tighten the skin up? Thanks everybody and please rude comments thanks again!!
Weight Loss Surgery? I am 24 years old, and I weigh 330 pounds. I honestly don't eat a lot, and I don't eat the wrong foods. In fact, I eat quite healthy. Lots of fresh fruit & veggies, salads, yogurt, sugar free stuff, but I can't lose the weight. I've tried every diet under the sun, and yet nothing happens. I've been contemplating the weight loss surgery, and I'm just wondering if anyone else out there has had it, would you recommend it? is it safe? how long is recovery? I have a 2 year old, and I want to be able to run & play with her. I want to be around to see my baby grow up- I'm at my wits end. Any advice will be appreciated.

Need some Doctors Advice? I need some advice about something that is ailing my mother at the current time. In February, my mother had weight loss surgery which went very well. As part of the recovery process, you are only allowed to eat certain things. At first it's liquids, then soft foods like pudding etc... It was after this stage that things took a turn. Soon, she was unable to keep any food down at all. She was going to the hospital every other day due to being malnourished. During her last trip to the hospital, while undergoing tests to find what was wrong with her, she loss a majority of the function in her legs. For the last 2 weeks, she has been at a rehab facility trying to learn how to walk again. She can only walk with the help of an orderly. She seems to be getting more depressed with each passing day. The doctors still have NO IDEA what was causing her stomach issues or her leg problems. Anyone seen anything like this?
will insurance pay for cosmetic surgery to correct scaring from another medically necessary surgery? About 2 years ago I had back surgery, the incision for the surgery was done through my abdomen for faster recovery. My abdomen is now ugly and uneven. The cut is about 5 inches longs going up and down, what makes my stomach uneven is that the incision was done more to one side of my abdomen instead of down the middle. Now even with excersise and weight loss it does not even out.
Have you had Bariatric surgery? Have you had it? What kind? band or bypass ? what was the recovery like and what weight loss results have you seen? oh and all you fatty haters I am not interested in your opinion of me or my fatness so please don't make a comment we all know us fat people built nuclear war heads and gave birth to hitler how evil.
I want to lose about 15-20 pounds by October--is it possible, or unhealthy? I'm going in for breast reduction surgery this winter, and was hoping to lose 20 pounds to get in shape before hand, because I won't be able to do much of anything during recovery. I'm 20, 5'3, weigh 150 lbs and have a 40DDD bust. I have a medium waist (30 inches), actually, but a bit of a belly-pouch, and large thighs and arms. I want to try to lose as much in my breasts, arms, thighs and tummy as possible before the actual surgery. I've been walking every other day for about 2 hours, and using a stationary bike on the days I don't walk for 30 minutes. My problem is diet--I'm extremely picky about my food. I like slim-fast, but I've heard those are actually detrimental to most diets because of the amount of sugar in them. Is there an OTC weight-loss suppliment I can take that will actually work to help me speed up my metabolism, and quell my snack-cravings, or should I just try as hard as I can to lose the weight without assistance? Please keep in mind that I'm not looking for an add for pills... I'm just trying to find out if there are any out there that I can use along with diet and working out that will actually help me, and not waste my time. Also, please refrain from using sarcasm. This is a genuine question and I'm looking for help, not bitterness.
Breast augmentation - recovery question????? I had a breast augementation surgery in Feb, 2008 - I have not gone to the gym ever since my surgery was done mainly because I am extremely worried that sweating and losing weight will change the look of my breasts. Is the change really noticeable after weight loss? do they get noticably smaller????
Lap Band Surgery?? My mother has been overwieght most of her adult life. She's now pushing 60 at close to 350 pounds. Her General Practitioner has suggested she try the lap band. I want to hear from REAL people who have tried this. Was there discomfort or pain? How long is recovery after placement? How soon did you notice a weight loss? Were there complications of any kind?
Has anybody done any of these procedures to remove stretch marks? Stretch Marks (Striae) Stretch marks, or striae, are a form of skin scarring associated with pregnancy, obesity, puberty, and short-term weight gain from bodybuilding and other physical activities. They form when the dermis – the middle layer of the skin that maintains shape and elasticity – is stretched more than it can tolerate. Connective fibers in the skin eventually break, disrupting collagen production and causing scarring. This scarring may be treatable only through stretch mark removal. DocShop can help you find a cosmetic dermatologist in your area today. Stretch Mark Removal Candidates Candidates for stretch mark removal include women who have recently been pregnant, people who have lost massive amounts of weight as a result of bariatric weight loss surgery, people who have gained significant weight through such activities as bodybuilding, and young adults who have experienced a significant growth spurt. Stretch marks are especially common on the thighs, hips, abdomen, lower back, buttocks, and arms. Natural Stretch Mark Removal Natural stretch mark removal methods include creams, lotions, and a variety of diet and exercise strategies intended to help repair skin. While generally less expensive than invasive techniques, these approaches are also less effective in removing stretch marks. While some natural products may fade stretch marks slightly, laser and surgical techniques are the only effective ways to remove stretch marks completely. Laser Stretch Mark Removal Laser stretch mark removal is a surgical procedure in which a laser is used to remove areas of the skin affected by stretch marks. Once the old, stretched skin is removed, new and unmarred skin grows to replace it. In most cases, a series of treatments is required to completely remove stretch marks. The procedure is very safe with an extremely low incidence of side effects, all of which are temporary and minor. Surgical Stretch Mark Removal Surgical stretch mark removal is the most conventional and consistently effective technique available. Surgical techniques involve removing areas of stretched skin. In a tummy tuck procedure, for instance, skin below the belly button is removed. This is often an area in which stretch marks are prominent. Similar techniques are available for other problem areas. These surgical techniques are effective, but are more invasive than other options and thus involve longer recovery time. Other Stretch Mark Removal Treatments Cosmetic dermatologists offer a variety of non-surgical alternatives for treating stretch marks. Popular and effective options include chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and blue light therapy. These are good options for patients who want to avoid surgery, and they are generally less expensive than laser stretch mark removal. Like all non-surgical stretch mark treatments, these options are most effective on newer scars. Mature stretch marks may require the use of surgical techniques for total removal. Stretch Mark Removal Cost The cost of stretch mark removal varies widely depending on the technique being used and the severity of the scars in question. Natural techniques like creams and lotions are generally the cheapest and least involved, but also the least effective. Surgical treatment is generally the most expensive, though repeated laser treatments result in similar costs. You should consult your cosmetic dermatology specialist for more detailed information. If so- can you tell me about it (if you've done one of the ones besides the cream) How long it took to heal- did it look good after words etc.

I have a family member who is a drug addict (pills). I need advice on how my family and I can help? This person has been addicted to perscription drugs/pain killers for a few years, due to a past surgery. This persons life has done a complete 180. Bankruptcy, money issues, health problems, weight loss, family/personal issues have developed. I no longer live in my home state, but am visiting soon. I want to help my family member and inform my family of the best way for them to help this person. At the moment, none of them seems to be doing anything and they are ignoring the problem. This person has claimed they are doing outpatient rehab, taking methadone to overcome the pill addiction. Methadone is a pill too and seems like a weird choice for a pill addict to use for recovery.Has anyone overcame painkiller addiction? Or has anyone went through this with a family member? I just want to know how to approach the addict and my family in the most helpful way possible. Any help or advice is very much appreciated.
orthopedic help!!!my knee is wack? I HAD A DOC APPT LAST WEEK WITH A DR. DAHL A ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON, WHO LOOKED AT MY KNEE SITUATION. IVE KINDA BEEN GETTIN THE RUN AROUND WITH OTHER DOCTORS BECAUSE NONE OF THEM SEEM TO WANT THE CHALLENGE OF GETTN MY LEG BACK TOGETHER. I WENT EVERY WHERE, DR BOYD WHO IS THE HEAD ORTHO FOR THE WILD AND TIMBER WOLVES, DR. LAPRADE THE HEAD ORTHO AT THE U OF M, THESE WERE HIGHLY RESPECTED DOCTORS. NOBODY SEEMED TO KNOW EXACTLY WHAT TO DO. FIRST I WAS WAIT EN FOR A ALLOGRAGH WHICH IS A LIVE BONE TRANSPLANT. IM MISSING ABOUT A 2"X2" CHUNK OF THE UPPER LEFT SIDE OF MY KNEE BONE(FEMUR) DUE TO MY MOTORCYCLE CRASH WHEN I GOT T-BOND BY A 16 YR OLD GIRL WHO RAN A STOP SIGN DOING 40MPH. MEANWHILE I WAS DOING 60MPH AND NEVER SEEN HER AS SHE STRUCK MY LEFT SIDE, KNEE FIRST. MY LEFT LEG WAS DESTROYED, 12 BREAKS IN THE LEFT LEG ALONE ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE TOES. ALONG WITH A SEVERE COMPOUND FRACTURE AT THE LEFT KNEE, NOT TO MENTION ALL THE LIGAMENTS AND MUSCLE THAT WERE COMPLETELY DESTROYED. WHEN I ARRIVED AT THE HOSPITAL THEY RUSHED ME INTO SURGERY, WHERE THEY HAD 2 BACK TO BACK 6 HOUR SURGERY'S. A MAJOR ARTERY IN MY LEG WAS NOT FLOWING THROUGH TO MY FOOT, AND THEY WERE ASKING MY PARENTS IF THEY COULD CUT IT OFF. EASY TO SAY BUT SOMETIMES I WISH THEY HAD. BACK TO MY POINT, THIS DOCTOR DAHL WHO I HAD GOTTEN 2 REFERRALS TO SEE, GAVE ME SOME PRETTY CONFIDENT WORDS. NOT BAD BUT CERTAINLY NOT GOOD WORDS, BUT HE AT LEAST HAS A PLAN AND SOUNDS VERY INTELLIGENT. FINALLY I FELT LIKE I CAN START TO AT LEAST STEP FORWARD IN THIS LIFE LONG STRUGGLE WITH MY LEG IM ABOUT TO EN DOUR. THE ALLOGRAGH WAS WANTED BECAUSE ITS RATED FOR A LONGER TIME THAN A KNEE REPLACEMENT WHICH IS ARTIFICIAL. THEY SAY BEING ONLY 24 MAKES IT WORSE BECAUSE I GOT ALOT OF ROUGH LIFE TO LIVE COMPARED TO A 60 YEAR OLD GUY GETTN A KNEE REPLACEMENT. SO THEY THINK THAT EVERY 5-12 YEARS IM GONNA NEED A REDO, SADLY EVERY TIME YOU DO ONE IT ACHIEVES WORSE AND WORSE RESULTS. WHICH COULD LEAD TO STRAIT BONE FUSION WITH NO MOVEMENT OR EVEN AMPUTATE EVENTUALLY, I GUESS ALL I CAN DO IS DIE EARLY. WELL THIS DR. DAHL SAYS THE TOTAL KNEE REPLACEMENT IS THE WAY TO GO BECAUSE THE ABUSE ON MY KNEE SO FAR HAS DAMAGED IT ENOUGH TO WHERE NOW ITS NOT JUST THE LEFT SIDE, ITS THE WHOLE KNEE. ALL THE WALKING AND COMPRESSION IS WEARING IT DOWN. HE PLANS TO TAKE OUT THE HARDWARE, BOLTS AND RODS THAT ARE CURRENTLY THERE NOW. WHILE DOING THIS HE WANTS TO HAVE HIS PARTNER WHICH I HAVENT MET YET, FIX MY FOOT. WHEN THE TRAUMA HAPPEND THERE WERE 6 BREAKS IN MY FOOT THAT WERE OVER LOOKED, MY FOOT IS VERY PAINFULL ALL THE TIME. ITS KINDA DEFORMED LOOKING NOW BECAUSE IT KINDA FOLDS INWARD ON ITSELF. WILL WHEN THEY DO MY HARDWARE REMOVAL THEY WILL DO THE REQUIRED BONE FUSIONS IN MY FOOT ALONG WITH PINS IN MY TOES.(OUCH) THEY SAY ABOUT A MONTH BEFORE ILL BE WALKING ON THE FOOT, ONCE THIS HEELS HE PLANS TO DO THE ARTIFICIAL FULL KNEE REPLACEMENT, WHICH IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE A PRETTY SURPRIZENLY SHORT RECOVERY. HE SAYS MY RIGHT KNEE IS SHOWING MAJOR STRESS FROM ME FAVORING MY WEIGHT ON THAT KNEE ALONG WITH MAJOR POST TRAUMATIC ARTHRITIS THROUGH OUT MY LOWER EXTREMITY'S.PLUS THE BACK PAIN, HAIR LOSS, MEDICAL COPAYS, DENTAL BS, BATTLE WITH PAIN PILLS, BOREDOM, BILLS, BILLS, BILLS, PAIN AND ROAD BLOCKS IN THE LOVE LIFE.... IF ANYBODY KNOWS OF ANY MIRACLES I COULD USE ONE ABOUT NOW.
