Is it wise to walk for 30 minutes a day/5 days a week, 6 months after total knee replacement surgery? My Mother is 65. She had total knee replacement surgery on one leg 6 months ago. Flew through quality rehab, impressing everyone with how well she recovered. Bone density test doesn't indicate osteoporosis. She is 135 lbs. 5'2" tall. Regular, thorough checkups reveal no health issues, save a bit of mild arthritis in the other knee and in her hands. She has no problems (yet) with the replacement knee.
Knee replacement surgery - how soon can I drive? I have been to 3 doctors to discuss orthoscopic surgery. 2 of the 3 said that they could not give me much assurance of a benefit. How to Avoid Knee Replacement Surgery? I JUST started having trouble with my knees 9 months ago. I was wearing some bad shoes....hadn't been getting exercise, gained weight and fell into a stairway, hitting a knee on the edge of a step. I limped for a few weeks. Got orthopedic shoes, which seemed to hhelp. I tried taking Glucosomine Chondroitin and Aleve. The doctors say that I have torn cartilige in both knees and advanced osteoarthritis in both knees. He said that both knees will have to be replaced in 5 years. I am only 53 years old and NEVER had knee pain before last November when I had that little fall in the stairway. It doesn't seem right. How can I avoid knee surgery? Can exercise and weight loss help much? Can supplements help to rebuild the cartiige? Do any of the steroid or Synvisc shots help? What can I do to improve my knee, joint health.....What really works?

Knee replacement surgery questions? I am a candidate for total knee replacement due to arthritis. I have heard conflicting information regarding use of the replacement joint. Some people say they can never kneel again, but my aunt, who's in her 80's, kneels to garden. Some say they've lost lateral movement. If you've had the surgery, would you please offer your perspective? And if you're an older woman, how long did it take you to resume your normal routine, like lifting grandkids and standing in the kitchen prepping meals? Thanks for the help.

Elderly relative had knee replacement surgery, now have soft tissue and nerve damage.? As I said above, elderly relative had knee replacement surgery and did really well. Just recently she was in the pool at the beach and it was particularly rough and she hurt the knee. The doctor said the knee is fine but she has soft tissue damage and nerve damage. He has not given her any idea how long it will take to get better or if it will get better. Not even a suggestion about what to do. She is very discouraged and now her movement is worse than before the surgery.
mom is having knee replacement surgery -is it as safe as they claim it is? My mom is going in for knee replacement surgery tomorrow 3/6/07. Is there really anything that can go horribly wrong with this?? I wasn't all TOO worried.....but now that it is tomorrow my mind is playing tricks on me. Also...mainly.....I'd like to send flowers (I'm out of state 2000 miles away). Can I do this, is there a infection problem, like when you are not able to send to ICU.....? Does the patient go to ICU....or just a theraputic room.....I really don't know much, and I don't want to alert my mom and worry her by asking too many questions. Any other suggestions on something I could send.....besides magazines, crossword puzzles and books....she is bringing all that in with her. Thanks! Katie

Has anyone had Knee Replacement surgery? My mother who is going to be 65 in August was told that surgery might be the best option now. She has had a lot of inflammation and cannot walk all the time. She has trouble standing up and walking. She has gotten cortosone shots, but still painful. She went to another dr and he is giving her therapy. Her dr told her to stop therapy and just have surgery. I am worried. Why? Well because my mother has always been very active around the home and taking care of kids and stuff. I do not want to see her depressed and tied down to a bed if its not going to work out. Can anyone please give me their honest opinion, prefferably someone that is a dr or knows (experience) more about this surgery. Thanks in advance. She has severe arthiritis and beginings of osteoporosis, if that makes a difference thank you all so much, you do not know how much your testimony is helping me be more comfortable. My mom is worried cuz i get married in nov and she wants to be able to walk and be there...i guess its just emotions and stress...thank you all again.
